Patrick Haas earned his degree in Dutch Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he went on to complete a European Master's Degree in Law & Economics at the University of Ghent, Lund University and the University of Stockholm. He was awarded an MBA in general management from the Rotterdam School of Management in 2002.
Being a lawyer since 1998 and being a partner in AKD's corporate/M&A practice group since 2005, Patrick is currently heading AKD's Corporate Litigation practice group. His work includes representing corporate clients in litigation - including inquiry proceedings - and arbitration proceedings as well as acting as a mediator in complex cases, including:
- disputes between all possible stakeholders of corporations, relating to issues of corporate governance and/or D&O liability;
- shareholder disputes including buy out disputes,
- disputes between joint venture partners or disputes between private equity investors; disputes relating to corporate transactions, including post-closing disputes or disputes relating to pre-contractual liability.
The cases that Patrick is dealing with typically involve complex issues of (international) corporate law as well as diverging interests of all parties involved. As such disputes typically have huge impact on the people involved, he considers it the duty of a lawyer never to lose focus on finding solid long term solutions without unnecessary escalation of a conflict. Therefore he always strives for aligning the interests of the parties involved and resolving disputes, preferably out of court. The combination of thorough legal and financial skills enables him to think strategically and to be creative in achieving optimal results for his clients in a hands-on style.
In its 2013 Global Edition Chambers and Partners Patrick was praised for being "very accessible and able to explain everything in an understandable way." In its 2014 Global Edition Chambers and Partners clients recommend him for his "easy approach and down-to-earth legal considerations - his memos are clear, and not indecisive." His recent highlights include advising Banco Mare Nostrum on an investment dispute involving a 5 star hotel in Cancun, Mexico. Next to his day to day practice, Patrick regularly gives lectures and workshops at several professional training institutes. In addition, he provides in-house training courses for clients on a regular basis. He is a permanent annotator of SDU's "Jurisprudentie in Nederland".
